Madison La Follette senior Isaiah Stewart was named the Big Eight Conference boys basketball “Player of the Year” on Wednesday as the all-conference teams were announced.

Senior Keonte Jones of Madison East was named Defensive Player of the Year and La Follette’s Curtrel Robinson was named Coach of the Year.

Stewart led the Lancers, who spent much of the season as the top-ranked team in the state, to the conference title. The Lancers were undefeated until losing in overtime to sixth-ranked Madison East.

Joining Stewart and Jones on the Big 8 2019-2020 All-Conference team are Madison West senior forward Dayne Armwald, Janesville Craig senior guard/forward Caleb Scoville, Sun Prairie sophomore guard Colin Schaefer, La Follette senior guards Derek Gray and Ben Probst and Janesville Craig junior guard Angelo Rizzo.

For the girls, Madison Memorial star Leilani Kapinus, who led the Spartans to a share of the Big Eight title with Middleton, has been named the Big Eight Player of the Year.

Kapinus was joined on the first-team Big Eight All-Conference squad by Middleton senior guard/forward Sitori Tanin, Janesville Craig guard Claudia Fieiras, Sun Prairie junior forward Jazzanay Symore, Verona senior guard Rayna Briggs, Madison East senior point guard Kalena Bentley and two of her Spartan teammates – junior guard Mia Morel and senior guard Emmoni Rankins.

Kapinus, a Penn State recruit and the No. 1 rated senior in the state, was honored alongside her teammate from Madison Memorial, senior Daiysha Brown, who earned the Defensive Player of the Year and her coach, Marques Flowers, who was named Coach of the Year.
