La Movida Radio’s 11th Annual Hispanic Heritage Luncheon set for Oct. 13

La Movida 1480AM/94.5FM and Mid-West Family Madison will celebrate achievements and contributions of Madison’s Latino community on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at the 11th Annual Hispanic Heritage Luncheon Celebration.

Every autumn, La Movida celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a luncheon that includes food, speeches, entertainment and awards at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center, 1 John Nolen Drive. This year’s keynote speaker will be Charlotte Deleste, news anchor at WISC-TV. Leaders and representatives of local Latino and non-Latino institutions are expected to attend this event including special guests Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, Fitchburg Mayor Aaron Richardson, Consul Julian Adem Diaz de Leon, Mexico Consulate of Milwaukee. Special remarks will be made by Dane County Executive Joe Parisi.

The following leaders and entities will be recognized during the luncheon for their contributions in the Greater Madison Area:

◉ Community Organization of the Year: Latino Consortium for Action

Centro Hispano Executive Director Karen Menendez Coller

◉ Community Leader of the Year: Dr. Karen Menendez-Coller, executive director of Centro Hispano
◉ Hispanic Achievement of the Year: Dr. Armando Ibarra, Professor, School for Workers, UW-Madison
◉ The Amigo Award: Dr. Jack E. Daniels, III President, Madison College
◉ Hispanic Entrepreneur of the Year: Tomas Ballesta, owner of La Concha Bakery
◉ Believe and Succeed Award: David Aguayo, Public Policy Manager, Greater Madison Chamber of Commerce
◉ Making a Difference Award: Clara Barbosa, Bilingual Resources Specialist, MMSD

 

WLMV – La Movida 1480AM/94.5FM will be broadcasting special programming during Latino Heritage Month (Sept. 15-Oct. 15) which will feature local Latino personalities and community leaders.
