The Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County honored Summit Credit Union with its Continuous Support and Commitment Award at their 2016 Gala Dinner at The Edgewater Hotel.

Founded in 2003, the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County represents the Latino and non-Latino business community in the greater Madison and surrounding cities. The mission of the Latino Chamber of Commerce of Dane County is to promote a favorable business climate and advance economic development for emerging and existing businesses.

Kim Sponem, CEO and President of Summit Credit Union, accepted the award on behalf of the credit union. Summit Credit Union earned the Continuous Support and Commitment Award for 10 years as a corporate sponsor as well as steady leadership involvement on Latino boards and other Latino nonprofits.

“At Summit we’re committed to building strong and thriving communities.” Sponem said. ”We appreciate the opportunity to support the Latino Chamber of Commerce in an ongoing way. We believe our partnership enhances our shared commitment to local entrepreneurship and business growth.”

The Latino Chamber of Commerce assists and promotes the interests of its members and community through advocacy and programs that make an overall impact to Dane County’s economic growth. The diverse relationship of its active members and partners includes small business owners, corporate representatives, and government leaders.

Sponem said three Summit staff members — Alex Ysquierdo, Christian Albouras and Tania Ibarra — have been especially instrumental in helping promote a favorable business climate and in advancing economic development for emerging and existing Latino businesses.

“Their leadership roles with the Latino Chamber, the Latino Professionals Association and other Dane County organizations have made this award possible. They are truly committed,” Sponem said.

More than 400 people attended the annual event that promotes local Latino businesses and entrepreneurs.
