Dane County transit looks to expand
Listening sessions will guide expansion of mass transit throughout Dane County.

The Dane County Transit Subcommittee will host listening sessions in Middleton, Fitchburg and DeForest to hear from community leaders and citizens regarding transit needs for outlying communities.

“We look to input from local leaders, businesses, Chambers of Commerce and citizens about potential benefits from an integrated, regional transit system, and the type of transit services that would best meet their needs,” said County Supervisor Robin Schmidt in an statement. “Better solutions to transit will come from direct communication with those seeking transit options.”

The sessions will all take place at 6 pm on the following dates and locations:

  • Tuesday, August 25, DeForest Public Library
  • Wednesday, August 26, Middleton Public Library
  • Monday, August 31, Candlewood Suites, Fitchburg

Residents of Oregon and Verona are encouraged to attend the Fitchburg session.

“When Governor Walker removed from state statutes the ability for communities to form regional transit authorities, Dane County lost the opportunity to have an integrated regional transit system,” Schmidt said. “Since then, the transit needs of Dane County and greater Madison area have continued to grow, while the ability to meet those needs has declined.”
