Madison Arts Commission seeking community input on public art at Park Badger Redevelopment

A four-acre block at S. Park Street and W. Badger Road is going through a community-driven master planning process, and The Madison Arts Commission wants to hear from community members who will share their vision for public art that could be incorporated into the Park Badger Redevelopment as part of the City of Madison’s Percent for Arts Program.

“The City’s Community Development Authority (CDA) is redeveloping the majority of the block at the corner of S. Park St. and W. Badger Rd. in a multi-phase project that will bring hundreds of affordable homes, new space for Public Health Madison & Dane County, and a new fire station to the neighborhood,” the City of Madison said in a press release on Tuesday. “The redevelopment will complement other recent additions and ongoing initiatives in the area, including the new Black Business Hub, Centro Hispano’s new facility, the Center for Black Excellence, and the new Village on Park parking structure.”

Based on the South Madison Plan and the initial planning and neighborhood outreach stages of the redevelopment process, the Park Badger Redevelopment aims to transform the area into a sustainable, accessible community hub that honors the neighborhood’s history while embracing innovative design. The redevelopment presents multiple opportunities for public art, including along a new public greenway between the first two buildings being constructed as part of the project. Once all of the phases of the redevelopment are completed, the public greenway will serve as a connection between the Madison College Goodman Campus and the Village on Park.
