Camille Carter, president and CEO of the Madison Black Chamber of Commerce, will deliver the keynote address at the upcoming Jumpstart TechX Accelerator Pitch event at the Rotary River Center in Beloit on Thursday, Sept. 3. Registration is free and open now.
Carter has led the chamber since January 2017, growing it from a single-cubicle operation into an organization now housed at the Black Business Hub on South Park Street. During her tenure, chamber membership has expanded to more than 850 businesses across Madison and Dane County, and the number of Black-owned businesses in the area has more than doubled over eight years.
A Michigan State University graduate who runs Financial Services Group of Wisconsin, Carter previously worked at North American Bancard and MassMutual Financial Group before taking the unpaid chamber role for nearly two and a half years to build its foundation. Her accomplishments include securing a $3.6 million grant from the Wisconsin Department of Administration, receiving the 2018 Charles Hamilton Houston Award for Outstanding Community Service in Economic Development, and being recognized at Madison Magazine’s 2024 Best of Madison Business Awards.
The announcement also included a reminder about the Black Business Month Awards Dinner, scheduled for Aug. 20, from 5:30–8:30 p.m. at the Rotary River Center in Beloit, Wisconsin. The event is free and open to the public, though advance registration is required; same-day sign-ups are not available.
