The beginning of November means the return of Madison Hmong New Year as Wisconsin Hmong Association Inc. seeks to bring together members and friends of the Hmong community in a large and fun-filled celebration of a time for harvest and honoring ancestry and culture. This year’s New Year celebrations will take place on Saturday, Nov. 4 and Sunday, Nov. 5.
There will also be a party to kick off the celebrations on Friday, Nov. 3 starting at 7 p.m. featuring Zong Pha Xiong, Douachi Yang, Supryze, Kevin Yang, Korxue Yang, and DJ Cha Xiong (One Entertainment).
The bulk of activities will be happening over the weekend at the Alliant Energy Center with various competitions including a new cornhole tournament. The event will have plenty of activities for children as well and children under 5 years old will be given free admission along with seniors 65 and older.
With plenty of community organizations showing support in attendance as well as local businesses and services highlighting Hmong entrepreneurship in the area, the Madison Hmong New Year is a great time to enjoy a day of culture, entertainment, and delicious food. There will also be the Leekong Xiong Dance Party on Saturday night which will go from 7 p.m. until midnight.
Pakeng Vang, president of The Hmong 18 Council of Wisconsin, Inc., will be the keynote speaker for the event, and many representatives from the Wisconsin Hmong Association will be in attendance including President Vang Chong Vang, Vice-President Jeff Lee, Culture Coordinator Bee Vang, Vice-Chair Kameng Thao, and Chairman G Thao.
The Madison Hmong New Year celebration is an exciting opportunity to be in community and celebrate the traditions of Hmong culture while highlighting amazing Hmong people, groups, and organizations.
