Madison Police Chief Shon Barnes will be inducted into the Evidence-Based Policing Hall of Fame this summer, an honor awarded to members of law enforcement who have been central to the implementation of a high-quality research program in their agency.
The award also recognizes these individuals for being champions of advancing significant reforms in policing by utilizing science in their decision-making. Eight people nationwide are a part of this year’s class. The Hall of Fame is through the Center for Evidence-Based Crime Policy in the Department of Criminology, Law and Society at George Mason University.
“This is a great honor of my career, and I am proud that this recognition will be associated with the Madison Police Department,” said Chief Barnes in a statement.
Chief Barnes joined the Madison Police Department in February 2021. He began his law enforcement career at the Greensboro Police Department as a patrol officer in 2000. Since then, he has gained leadership experience in Salisbury, North Carolina, and Chicago.
