Madison-based web design and development firm Adorable IO has committed to supporting the Madison365 Academy, the online magazine’s educational program to prepare young people of color to become journalists, with the donation of ten laptop computers and classroom space at their downtown office for the fall semester.
“Through our partnership with the YWeb Career Academy, we’ve seen & felt firsthand the incredible impact career training can have in the lives of young people,” said Adorable CEO Jim Remsik. “We think Madison365 has a chance to make that kind of impact and change the conversation through the media. We’re happy to be in a position to help, and we’re really looking forward to seeing Madison365 Academy staff and students around the office.”
The inaugural semester of the Madison365 Academy college program begins October 3 with students from Madison College, Edgewood College and the University of Wisconsin, and will last through the end of the year. The inaugural summer high school program, and intensive three-week “journalism boot camp,” had eight students produce 26 news and opinion stories which reached more than 100,000 readers.
“We couldn’t do what we are doing without strong support from community partners like Adorable,” said Madison365 CEO Henry Sanders. “Adorable is one of those local businesses that really gets it — they truly understand the value of diversity in the workplace and the wider community. We’re truly grateful for their support.”
The Madison365 Academy is also supported by financial contributions from the Madison Community Foundation, American Family Dreams Foundation and CUNA Mutual Foundation.
