Three of the University of Wisconsin Badgers football team’s all-time great running backs gathered at HotelRED in downtown Madison this morning for the Morning Sports Report’s “Wisconsin Football’s Greatest Legacy: The Storied History of the University’s Running Backs.”

Ron Dayne, Terrell Fletcher, and Brian Calhoun were the panelists for the Morning Sports Report, a quarterly breakfast series presented by Madison Area Sports Commission and ESPN Madison that brings together those interested or working in sports. The event begins with networking, followed by a short program covering a featured topic with the special guests who serve as panelists.

Ronald Dayne played college football at the University of Wisconsin from 1996-1999. He set the major college record for career rushing yards and won the 1999 Heisman Trophy. Dayne was a first-round pick of the New York Giants in the 2000 NFL Draft and also played professionally for the Denver Broncos and Houston Texans.

Terrell Fletcher played running back for the Badgers from 1991-1994 and was a major contributor to Wisconsin’s 1993 Rose Bowl squad. Fletcher totaled 3,414 rushing yards during his Badgers career and his 5.56 career yards-per-carry average is 5th best in Badgers history. He was drafted in the second round by the San Diego Chargers in 1995 and played 8 seasons in the NFL.

Brian Calhoun, who played for the Badgers from 2003-2006, was a second-team All-America choice and consensus first-team All-Big Ten selection, as well as a semifinalist for the Doak Walker Award as the nation’s top running back. He was drafted by the Detroit Lions in the third round of the 2006 NFL Draft.
