Madison365 has been named a finalist for five 2023 Milwaukee Press Club Awards for investigative, feature and explanatory reporting.
MPC named three finalists in each category, with final placement of gold, silver and bronze awards to be announced at the organization’s Gridiron Dinner on May 3.
Madison365 earned finalist honors in the following categories:
- Best Local News or Feature Website
- Best Investigative Story for Robert Chappell’s coverage of a local Indigenous arts leader who was not, in fact, Indigenous
- Best Coverage of a Single News Topic for Omar Waheed and Robert Chappell’s ongoing coverage, in both Madison365 and Blueprint365, of the state legislature’s pressure on the University of Wisconsin to cut DEI efforts
- Best Business or Consumer Story for Omar Waheed’s coverage in Blueprint365 of Madison Metro’s change in bus lines and its effect on people with disabilities
- Best Original Podcast for Angela Russell’s interview of Judge Everett Mitchell on Black Oxygen
“Every day we focus on highlighting communities of color and amplifying their voices. Madison365 has been recognized locally and nationally, earning nine previous Milwaukee Press Club awards, a 2021 award for Excellence in Revenue and 2019 awards for Best Breaking News and Publication of the Year from the national organization LION Publishers.
This year’s MPC contest drew more than 800 entries from throughout Wisconsin in professional and collegiate categories. Representing journalists and news outlets since 1885, MPC is the oldest continually operating press club in North America.
