Madison365 has been named a finalist for three national awards from the organization Local Independent Online News Publishers (LION).

On the business side, Madison365 is a finalist for General Excellence – Revenue Growth, along with Block Club Chicago and Wausau Pilot & Review.

For journalism, Madison365 is a finalist for Best Investigative Report of the Year for exposing the case of Jimmie Joshua, the man who had his hip broken by Dane County Jail deputies and was left alone in a cell for 15 hours before being hospitalized. Mississippi Free Press and Enlace Latino NC are the other finalists.

Madison365 and Wausau Pilot & Review are jointly finalists for Best Solutions Project of the Year for our three-part series on how COVID has changed incarceration.

“I’m extremely proud that we can continue to keep the community first by holding systems accountable through our journalism, while at the same time building a financially sustainable model so that years to come we continue to make sure all voices are heard,” said Henry Sanders, CEO of 365 Media Foundation and publisher of Madison365. “We believe non profit media is the future. We are grateful to do our part to let others see how viable nonprofit media  can work, especially when it comes to representation of marginalized communities and voices.”

LION represents more than 300 news publishers across the United States. Madison365 won the award for Best Breaking News Coverage and was named Publisher of the Year in 2019.
