Mary Wilson, who co-founded the legendary Motown group The Supremes with Diana Ross and the late Florence Ballard, died Monday night at the age of 76.

Wilson’s longtime publicist, Jay Schwartz, reported that Wilson died suddenly. The circumstances of her death were not immediately revealed.

The Supremes has 12 No. 1 pop hits from 1964-69 as the group became the biggest of Motown’s vocal groups of that era. The Supremes charted a total of 16 top-10 pop singles and 19 top-10 R&B 45s.

“To a female trailblazer and forever Sweetheart of Motown, who brought many timeless records for generations to come – Thank You. Your art and your legacy will forever live on in the Motown story. From our Motown family, rest in paradise,” Motown Records wrote in a Tweet.
