Madison Mayor Paul Soglin says he will “most likely” run for governor in 2018, according to The Capital Times.

Soglin told The Capital Times he wanted to see the city budget formalized and adopted in early November and then wait beyond end-of-year holidays to when people are paying more attention to public affairs.

“I’ll have an announcement after the first of the year and it is most likely I will run,” Soglin said to The Capital Times.

Soglin will face a crowded field: At least 18 Democrats have declared they’re running or are considering the race against Gov. Scott Walker next year. The 2018 primary is in August and the general election is on Nov. 6.
