MIDDLETON, Wis. — The Middleton Police Department says multiple officers were joined by deputies from the Dane County Sheriff’s Office after a report of a student having a gun at Middleton High School Monday.
Authorities were alerted when the school’s resource officer was told by a staff member that a student possibly had a gun inside the school. After the report was made, the school was put on lockdown as the search for the student began.
After about 45 minutes, the student was found and arrested without incident.
“The staff and students at Middleton High School, in partnership with our law enforcement partners, should be commended for keeping our students and staff safe during this situation,” Superintendent Dr. Dana Monogue said in a statement. “The high school will have extra student services staff members on hand to speak with any students who need it.”
Police say the investigation into the incident is still ongoing.
School officials did not respond to News 3 Now’s requests for further comment.
News 3 had previously reported that Middleton police had said that they are investigating a situation near Middleton High School with several schools under lockdown and that there was a message from the district to staff at the high school indicating that there was a student on campus with a gun in their backpack.
