The Madison Metropolitan School District has appointed Nasif K. Rogers as its new senior executive director of schools and learning.

Rogers brings 17 years of experience in education, school leadership and equity-focused systems change. His background includes classroom instruction, instructional coaching, school administration, professional learning and organizational leadership, according to a press release from MMSD, and he has served as a teacher, principal, associate principal, director of equity and national director of diversity, equity and inclusion.

“Nasif brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to supporting students, educators and school communities,” said Dr. Carlettra Stanford, MMSD assistant superintendent of schools and learning, in a statement. “His background in instructional leadership, collaboration and equity-focused work will be a valuable addition to our team.”

Rogers is a graduate of Chicago Public Schools and grew up on Chicago’s South Side. He credits his grandmother and educators with inspiring his career in education.

Most recently, Rogers served as director of strategy and proactive systems change coach with Integrated Comprehensive Systems for Equity and Proactive Special Education Consultants.  He previously served as director of equity for the Wauwatosa School District and held leadership positions with the Glendale–River Hills and Nicolet Unified school districts.

In addition to his work in public education, Rogers is a founding board member and vice president of Future Urban Leaders, a Milwaukee-based nonprofit focused on youth leadership development, academic support, social and civic engagement and wellness. He also teaches graduate-level educational leadership courses at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.

Rogers earned a bachelor’s degree in history and educational studies from Ripon College and a master’s degree in educational leadership from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. He is pursuing a Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy analysis at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

“I am deeply honored to join MMSD and contribute to its vision of ensuring that every school is a thriving school where every student is prepared for college, career and community,” Rogers said. “I look forward to listening, learning and building relationships across the district as we work together to strengthen our schools and create opportunities for every student to excel and thrive.”
