Nikki Conklin bested longtime incumbent Paul Skidmore in the primary election to represent Madison’s far west side on the Common Council, earning 30.6 percent of the vote in the four-way primary.

Skidmore will also move on to the April 6 general election, narrowly beating Anthony “Nino” Amato for second place. Skidmore earned 651 votes, or 28.4 percent, to Amato’s 626 votes, or 27.3 percent.

Doug Hyant garnered 13.5 percent of the vote.

Skidmore has been under fire since it was alleged that he used a misogynist slur against a community member during a Common Council virtual meeting in September. He denied the allegation.
