Oprah Winfrey’s exciting speech at the Golden Globes Sunday night has sparked speculation that she may run for president in the next election challenging another former television personality, Donald Trump.

On Monday morning, CNN cited two close friends as sources who reported that Winfrey is “actively thinking” about running for president.

The two friends, who requested anonymity in order to speak freely, talked in the wake of Winfrey’s extraordinary speech at the Golden Globes last night, which spurred chatter about a 2020 run. Some of Winfrey’s confidants have been privately urging her to run, the sources said. One of the sources said these conversations date back several months.

Winfrey – a filmmaker, actor, philanthropist, and Presidential Medal Of Freedom winner – accepted the Cecil B. DeMille Award at the Golden Globes last night with a rousing speech that focused on the #metoo movement. “For too long, women have not been heard or believed, if they dared to speak their truth to the power of those men, but their time is up,” Winfrey said, inspiring a standing ovation.

Winfrey went on to say that speaking up is more important now than ever, as the media and the very idea of facts are under siege.

“It is the insatiable dedication to uncovering the absolute truth that keeps us from turning a blind eye to corruption and to injustice, to tyrants and victims and secrets and lies,” Winfrey told the crowd. “Speaking your truth is the most powerful tool that we all have.”

In his opening monologue, Golden Globes host Seth Meyers joked about the possibility of Winfrey, 63, running for president.

“In 2011, I told some jokes about our current president at the White House correspondents dinner, jokes about how he was unqualified to be president,” the NBC late-night host said. “And some have said that night convinced him to run. And if that’s true, I would just like to say Oprah you will never be president.”
