“Own It: Building Black Wealth,” a private sector network of Madison-area professionals in the real estate, banking, and financial industries focused on advancing financial education, homeownership, and economic prosperity within Black and brown communities in the greater Madison area, announced two new partnerships with local non-profits on Monday — Centro Hispano of Dane County and Anesis Therapy.

Own It has provided down payment grants totaling $273,000 over the last two years, giving 17 Dane County families the downpayment funds needed to become first-time homeowners in a competitive real estate market.

“At this time when we need hope, Centro celebrates working with Own It, to advance the wealth-building potential of our staff and community,” Dr. Karen Menendez Coller, executive director of Centro Hispao, said in a press release. “I am always excited to work with innovative partners who prioritize seeking solutions to unjust systemic barriers. Today, I find myself also feeling grateful.”

Own It now has three community partnerships as it expands upon its initial success working with One City Schools.

“Own It has raised more than $900,000 in private funds from individuals and real estate and financial institutions, reflecting the commitment to address the significant racial disparities in homeownership rates in Dane County,” said Tiffany Malone, co-founder of Own It.

To celebrate this expansion and new partnerships, community members are invited to the Own It New Brand Reveal and Celebration on Thursday, Dec. 5, 5-7 p.m. at the Black Business Hub, 2352 South Park St. Tickets for the event can be purchased here.
