The City of Madison is seeking a motivated, flexible, detail-oriented and customer-service focused individual to lead the City’s nationally-renowned Street Vending Program as the City of Madison’s Street Vendor Coordinator. The City of Madison is known for the unique culinary offerings of its diverse food carts and for its vibrant outdoor sidewalk cafés.

The work involves issuing licenses, making on-site observations and field inspections, communicating with the public and vendors, advising diverse startup business owners, following up on complaints, performing enforcement activities, collecting fees and maintaining related records. The position includes coordinating and directing the work of the City’s Street Vending Monitor and staffing the Vending Oversight Committee.

Qualified candidates will have at least two years of experience in customer service management, program support, small business management, or regulation enforcement, development and implementation.

SUMMARY: End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin is seeking a public policy professional to advocate on behalf of survivors of domestic abuse in state and federal legislative and other policy-making processes. This position is responsible for the development, monitoring and implementation of state legislative and biennial budget initiatives related to domestic abuse that promote the best interests of victims of domestic abuse from diverse groups, their children and domestic abuse service providers. This position is also responsible for monitoring federal legislation and funding initiatives related to domestic abuse and maintains communication with domestic abuse service providers regarding legislative and systems advocacy. The individual will also serve as a spokesperson and media relations coordinator for the agency.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) State and Federal Legislative Advocacy: With the Associate and Executive Directors and other staff, act as an effective public policy advocate for survivors of domestic abuse in Wisconsin. Responsibilities include: analyzing, monitoring and proposing legislation; organizing End Abuse’s member programs and other concerned individuals and organizations to achieve End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin’s public policy goals; maintaining relationships with legislators and other strategic partners; and ensuring compliance with various regulations related to lobbying and policy advocacy.

2) Local Systems Advocacy and Assistance: Serve as a policy analyst and advisor to End Domestic Abuse Wisconsin’s member agencies as they work in their communities to advocate for improvements in local policy and practice, particularly on issues related to the criminal and civil legal systems and human services. Assist local member agencies in analyzing policy issues and developing strategies for change.

3) Communications: Act as a point person for END ABUSE’s traditional media and social media communications. Maintain effective relationships with journalists and news outlets throughout the state. Plan, compose and send press releases, and serve as a media spokesperson. Plan social media content to support policy advocacy and other communication public awareness priorities.

QUALIFICATIONS:

We are looking for a candidate with:
• Three or more years of experience (preferred) in public policy analysis and advocacy
• Substantial knowledge or experience in the movement to end gender-violence
• Firm understanding of state and federal legislative processes, and administrative rule making and decision making
• Subject-matter expertise in policy areas that affect survivors of domestic abuse
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• A commitment to an anti-oppression and social justice framework
• The ability to work collaboratively and effectively in coalitions and in strategic partnerships
• Ability to speak a language other than English, particularly Spanish or Hmong, is a plus

The salary range for this position is $47,500-53,500 a year based on experience. End Abuse also offers a competitive benefits package that includes a $10,000 flexible benefit which can be used to pay benefit premiums or can be taken as additional salary. Preference is given in hiring to those having a B.A/B.S. degree in Music Education, Early Childhood Education/Child Development or to those having experience working with young children within a musical setting.
