In what Madison Police Chief Mike Koval called a “cold-blooded assassination,” a 33-year-old African American man is dead and a 29-year-old African American seriously injured in a shooting at the 7-11 at Todd Drive and the West Beltline.

“It’s like the assignment of the day was to locate and assassinate,” Koval said at a morning press conference Wednesday.

It is the 10th homicide of the year.

He said technology will assist in the investigation, as many cameras covered the area. He also said many witnesses were present. It is not clear whether gangs or drugs were involved.

The 29-year-old victim is undergoing multiple surgeries but is expected to survive.
