Positive coronavirus test rate continues increase

The rate of coronavirus tests returning positive results rose to 9.2 percent — up from 8.3 percent on Tuesday — as just over 9,000 tests returned 843 positive results, according to Wisconsin state and county public data. The 843 new cases bring the total case count for Wisconsin to 73,981. Of those, just over 7,500 are considered active.

Additionally, two fatalities were reported Monday — one each in Burnett and Dane Counties — bringing the state’s total death toll to 1,113. Eighteen people who tested positive for coronavirus infection have died of other causes, and are not counted as covid fatalities.

Today’s data brings the seven-day average of new cases to 703 and the 14-day average of new cases to 687. Over the past seven days, the percentage of positive tests has averaged 8.5 percent, and 8.2 percent over the past 14 days.

Wisconsin has averaged six deaths per day over the past week and the past two weeks, for a total of 75 in the past 14 days.

The highest local new case count came in Milwaukee County, with 165 new cases and 7.71 percent of tests coming back positive.

Jefferson County: 22 new cases, 16.92 percent positive tests
La Crosse County: 24 new cases, 25.53 percent positive tests
Manitowoc County: 17 new cases, 14.78 percent positive tests
Marathon County: 11 new cases, 8.33 percent positive tests
Marinette County: 12 new cases, 26.09 percent positive tests
Outagamie County: 49 new cases, 18.77 percent positive tests
Portage County: 19 new cases, 19.39 percent positive tests
Racine County: 29 new cases, 9.54 percent positive tests
Rock County:28 new cases, 10.22 percent positive tests
Shawano County: 13 new cases, 21.31 percent positive tests
Sheboygan County: 14 new cases, 8.43 percent positive tests
Walworth County: 21 new cases, 10.74 percent positive tests
Washington County: 22 new cases, 8.79 percent positive tests
Waukesha County: 59 new cases, 9.47 percent positive tests
Waupaca County: 15 new cases, 31.91 percent positive tests
Winnebago County: 28 new cases, 18.18 percent positive tests

Hospitalizations rose slightly to 309 currently hospitalized at the time of this reporting with COVID 19, 18 more than Thursday but 41 fewer than a week ago. Of those, 103 are in ICUs, seven more than Thursday.
