The percentage of coronavirus tests coming back positive fell to 2.74 percent Saturday as 349 new cases were reported, bringing the statewide total to 20,602 — of which more than 6,150 remain active.

Additionally, 12 people succumbed to COVID19 since this time Friday — eight in Milwaukee County — bringing the total death toll to 645.

The largest local increase in new cases today comes from Milwaukee County, with 162 new cases but only four percent of tests coming back positive.

A number of counties showed a small number of new cases, but high percentage of positive tests, including:

Dane County: 20 new cases, 10 percent positive tests
Fond du Lac County: 7 new cases, 7 percent positive tests
Outagamie County: 10 new cases, 6 percent positive tests
Portage County: 10 new cases, 71 percent positive tests
Walworth County: 7 new cases, 15 percent positive tests
Winnebago County: 20 new cases, 7 percent positive tests

Also of concern in Dane County: of 20 new cases, five are in children under the age of 10.

Hospitalizations statewide are down sharply at 315, 40 fewer than Friday. Of those currently hospitalized, 118 require intensive care. Additionally, 177 people are hospitalized and awaiting test results.

The rate of disparity in Latino populations continues to stand out — 33.5 percent of total cases are now Latino people, and 36 percent of today’s new cases. Latinos make up just seven percent of the state’s overall population.

Similarly, 19 percent of all cases are Black people, who also make up 25 percent of deaths. Black people make up just six percent of the state’s population.

DHS also reports that 65 percent of those confirmed to have been infected have recovered and 3.3 percent have died, leaving about 6,150 active, confirmed infections in the state.
