The percentage of coronavirus tests coming back positive fell to 2.33 percent Saturday — the third straight day it has remained under three percent — as 248 new cases were reported, bringing the statewide total to 20,850 — of which more than 6,140 remain active.

Additionally, two people succumbed to COVID19 since this time Saturday — one in Waukesha County and one in Milwaukee County — bringing the total death toll to 647.

The largest local increase in new cases today comes from Milwaukee County, with 118 new cases but just under four percent of tests coming back positive.

A number of counties showed a small number of new cases, but high percentage of positive tests, including:

Dane County: 20 new cases, 16 percent positive tests
Jackson County: 1 new case, 8 percent positive tests
Lafayette County: 3 new cases, 8 percent positive tests
Ozaukee County: 3 new cases, 17.7 percent positive tests
Portage County: 2 new cases, 22 percent positive tests
Sheboygan County: 3 new cases, 8.8 percent positive tests
Waukesha County: 13 new cases, 12.8 percent positive tests
Walworth County: 7 new cases, 15 percent positive tests
Waupaca County: 6 new cases, 33.3 percent positive tests

Also of concern in Dane County: of 20 new cases, three are in children under the age of 10. That age group has seen a 140 percent increase in positive cases over the past week, from 10 to 24. Overall, Dane County has seen a 15 percent increase in positive cases.

Hospitalizations statewide are down again at 304, nine fewer than Friday. Of those currently hospitalized, 107 require intensive care. Additionally, 183 people are hospitalized and awaiting test results.

The rate of disparity in Latino populations continues to stand out — 33.5 percent of total cases are now Latino people, and 28 percent of today’s new cases. Latinos make up just seven percent of the state’s overall population.

Similarly, 19 percent of all cases are Black people, who also make up 25 percent of deaths. Black people make up just six percent of the state’s population.

DHS also reports that 65 percent of those confirmed to have been infected have recovered and 3.3 percent have died, leaving about 6,140 active, confirmed infections in the state.
