Following a day of limited data due to a system outage, the state Department of Health Services reported 1,247 new cases over the past two days: just 266 on Monday, but 981 on Tuesday. The rate of coronavirus tests returning positive fell to seven percent Monday and rose to 8.3 percent Tuesday. The 1,247 new cases bring the total case count for Wisconsin to 76,584. Of those, just over 7,500 are considered active.

Additionally, nine fatalities were reported Saturday — four in Milwaukee County and one each in Marathon, Racine, Walworth, Waukesha and Wood Counties. Additionally, one reported fatality from Outagamie County was removed from the data, so the total death toll rose by eight to 1,130. Eighteen people who tested positive for coronavirus infection have died of other causes, and are not counted as covid fatalities.

Today’s data brings the seven-day average of new cases to 727. Over the past seven days, the percentage of positive tests has averaged 8.6 percent, and eight percent over the past 14 days.

Wisconsin has averaged five deaths per day over the past week and six per day over the past two weeks.
