more than 6,300 cases were considered active.

Additionally, 10 people died of COVID19 in the past 24 hours, including four in Milwaukee County and two in Dane County.

The largest local increase in new cases today comes from Milwaukee County, with 92 new cases and just over seven percent of tests coming back positive.

Today’s new cases were spread throughout the state, with a number of counties posting double-digit increases:

Brown County: 15 new cases, 2.9 percent positive tests

La Crosse County: 20 new cases, 3.96 percent positive tests
Waukesha County: 14 new cases, 1.17 percent positive tests

Of the 16 new cases confirmed in Dane County, two are under 10 years of age, nine are in the 20-29 age range, three are in their thirties and three are in their fifties.

Hospitalizations statewide are down to 247, 81 fewer than a week ago. Of those currently hospitalized for COVID-19, 93 require intensive care. Additionally, 182 people are hospitalized and awaiting test results.

The rate of disparity in Latino populations continues to stand out — 33 percent of total cases are now Latino people, and 27 percent of today’s new cases. Latinos make up just seven percent of the state’s overall population.

Similarly, 19 percent of all cases are Black people, with 10 percent of today’s new cases and 25 percent of total COVID-19 related deaths in the state. Black people make up just six percent of the state’s population.

DHS also reports that 75 percent of those confirmed to have been infected have recovered and three percent have died.
