The rate of coronavirus tests returning positive results fell to 6.4 percent — down from 9.3 percent on Sunday — as just under 10,000 tests returned 638 positive tests, according to Wisconsin state and county public data. The 638 new cases bring the total case count for Wisconsin to 71,492. Of those, just under 7,400 are considered active.
Additionally, 13 fatalities were reported Monday — three in Milwaukee County, two in Outagamie County and one each in Adams, Pierce, Portage, Racine, St. Croix, Walworth, Waukehsa and Winnebago Counties. Eighteen people who tested positive for coronavirus infection have died of other causes, and are not counted as covid fatalities.
Today’s data brings the seven-day average of new cases to 666 and the 14-day average of new cases to 710. Over the past seven days, the percentage of positive tests has averaged 8.16 percent, and 8.23 percent over the past 14 days.
Wisconsin has averaged six deaths per day over both the past week and the past two weeks, for a total of 83 in the past 14 days.
The highest local new case count came in Milwaukee County, with 115 new cases and 10.76 percent of tests coming back positive. Behind Milwaukee today is Brown County with 105 new cases and 12.46 percent positive tests.

La Crosse County: 13 new cases, 6.22 percent positive tests
Manitowoc County: 11 new cases, 5.05 percent positive tests
Outagamie County: 30 new cases, 8.52 percent positive tests
Ozaukee County: 13 new cases, 13.4 percent positive tests
Portage County:12 new cases, 6.22 percent positive tests
Racine County: 27 new cases, 5.08 percent positive tests
Rock County: 11 new cases, 6.18 percent positive tests
Sheboygan County: 23 new cases, 18.11 percent positive tests
Walworth County: 19 new cases, 10.86 percent positive tests
Washington County: 22 new cases, 22.22 percent positive tests
Waukesha County: 19 new cases, 2.86 percent positive tests
Winnebago County: 12 new cases, 2.97 percent positive tests
Hospitalizations rose to 354 currently hospitalized at the time of this reporting with COVID 19, 17 more than Monday and 26 fewer than a week ago. Of those, 133 are in ICUs, 12 more than Monday.
The rate of disparity in Latino populations has improved but continues to stand out. More than 21 percent of total cases are now Latino people, as well as 15.2 percent of today’s new positive cases. Latinos make up just seven percent of the state’s overall population.
Similarly, 13 percent of all cases are Black people, as are 20 percent of total COVID-19 related deaths in the state. Black people make up just six percent of the state’s population.
The state now reports that 1.5 percent of all covid cases in Wisconsin have died, while 88 percent have recovered and 10.5 percent remain active.
