Positive test rate rises as 11 more die

The rate of coronavirus tests returning positive results rose to 8.1 percent — down from 7.4 percent on Tuesday — as just over 10,000 tests returned 878 positive tests, according to Wisconsin state and county public data. The 878 new cases bring the total case count for Wisconsin to 73,138. Of those, just over 7,500 are considered active.

Additionally, 11 fatalities were reported Monday — three in Racine County, two each Washington and Waukesha Counties, and one each in Kenosha, Oconto, Walworth and Waushara Counties — bringing the state’s total death toll to 1,111. Eighteen people who tested positive for coronavirus infection have died of other causes, and are not counted as covid fatalities.

Today’s data brings the seven-day average of new cases to 701  and the 14-day average of new cases to 685. Over the past seven days, the percentage of positive tests has averaged 8.3 percent, and 8.1 percent over the past 14 days.

Wisconsin has averaged six deaths per day over the past week and seven each day over the past two weeks, for a total of 86 in the past 14 days.

The highest local new case count came in Milwaukee County, with 162 new cases and 10.56 percent of tests coming back positive.

Eau Claire County: 20 new cases, 58.82 percent positive tests
Fond du Lac County: 12 new cases, 12.5 percent positive tests
La Crosse County: 32 new cases, 15.25 percent positive tests
Manitowoc County: 10 new cases, 40 percent positive tests
Oconto County: 14 new cases, 23.73 percent positive tests
Outagamie County: 46 new cases, 18.47 percent positive tests
Ozaukee County: 15 new cases, 14.16 percent positive tests
Portage County:16 new cases, 6.22 percent positive tests
Racine County: 34 new cases, 4.73 percent positive tests
Rock County: 16 new cases, 7.44 percent positive tests
Sauk County: 24 new cases, 3.25 percent positive tests
Sheboygan County: 20 new cases, 10.56 percent positive tests
Walworth County: 16 new cases, 10.74 percent positive tests
Washington County: 22 new cases, 11.58 percent positive tests
Waukesha County: 63 new cases, 8.29 percent positive tests
Waupaca County: 17 new cases, 30.91 percent positive tests
Winnebago County: 31 new cases, 63.27 percent positive tests

Hospitalizations fell sharply to 291 currently hospitalized at the time of this reporting with COVID 19, 53 more than Wednesday and 76 fewer than a week ago. Of those, 96 are in ICUs, 11 fewer than Wednesday.
