Positive test rate tops 20% as total case count passes 100,000

Wisconsin confirmed 1,665 new coronavirus cases Sunday, the fourth-highest ever in a single day — the highest three have come in the past three days — on just 8,320 tests, for a positive test rate of 20.01 percent. Those results bring the total case count to 101,227, of which just over 14,100 are considered active, about 500 more than Saturday.

Today is the 16th day of the past 17 that the positive test rate has been over 10 percent.

Wisconsin’s positive test rate for the past seven days is now 17.27 percent, and the 14-day rate is up to 16 percent. Today’s data brings the seven-day average of new cases to 1,720 and the 14-day average to 1,973.

One new fatality were reported today — the third-ever death in Wood County — bringing the total death toll to 1,242

Wisconsin has averaged 4.57 deaths per day over the past week and 5.69 per day over the past two weeks.

The highest local new case count came in Milwaukee County, with 208 new cases and 32.91 percent positive tests.

Dodge County: 27 new cases, 10.19 percent positive tests
Dunn County: 26 new cases, 15.38 percent positive tests
Eau Claire County: 59 new cases, 90.77 percent positive tests
Grant County: 39 new cases, 11.75 percent positive tests
Jefferson County: 22 new cases, 19.13 percent positive tests
Juneau County: 11 new cases, 17.46 percent positive tests
Kenosha County: 24 new cases, 9.2 percent positive tests
Kewaunee County: 15 new cases, 100 percent positive tests (likely due to some negative tests not being reported)
La Crosse County: 93 new cases, 70.99 percent positive tests
Manitowoc County: 19 new cases, 82.61 percent positive tests
Marathon County: 46 new cases, 93.88 percent positive tests
Marquette County: 14 new cases, 29.79 percent positive tests
Monroe County: 14 new cases, 33.33 percent positive tests
Oconto County: 17 new cases, 85 percent positive tests
Outagamie County: 112 new cases, 39.3 percent positive tests
Ozaukee County: 31 new cases, 100 percent positive tests (likely due to some negative tests not being reported)

The number hospitalized with COVID-19 on Saturday jumped to 407, 45 more than Saturday and 94 more than a week ago. Of those, 111 were in ICUs, six more than Saturday.
