Aaron Richardson has handily defeated incumbent mayor Jason Gonzalez in Fitchburg, earning 64 percent of the vote.
Gonzalez had been dogged with controversy, including disciplinary actions in his criminal defense law practice and claims of sexual harassment and dereliction of duty as a volunteer EMT. He also drew the ire of African American residents when he led the charge to defund the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County from the City budget, going to far as to close down City Council meetings. Gonzalez was also the first Latino mayor of Fitchburg.
Richardson is a Fitchburg alder and marketing consultant.
