Walmart officials said they will not donate the Sam’s Club building on Watts Road to the Dane County Boys and Girls Club, but suggested the nonprofit organization make an offer to buy the building.
Boys & Girls Club of Dane County CEO Michael Johnson, along with community leaders, asked Walmart to donate the building last week so they could repurpose the building into a regional youth sports center.
On Thursday, Walmart Realty responded to Johnson’s request by saying “We have determined that your current proposal is inconsistent with the defined parameters for the sale the property.”

“While we always welcome offers to purchase from nonprofits – and this is an option for the Boys and Girls Club – please know that our decision-making lens must consider the future success of our existing business on the site, and dynamic developments in a competitive retail environment,” Walmart officials said in a letter to Johnson.
