A Sun Prairie Board of Education member says she is resigning due to Board-implemented policies she said were “created to silence me”.
Lisa Goldsberry wrote in a Facebook post on Dec. 2 that she is resigning from the school board.
“Tonight, I resigned from the school board,” Goldsberry wrote. “When other school board members start creating policies to silence me, it’s time for me to go.”
Goldsberry is the second member of Sun Prairie’s school board to resign in recent weeks, joining Alwyn Foster who resigned in October to express what Foster called “solidarity” with former Sun Prairie East principal Renee Coleman. Coleman was forced to resign in November following two separate school district investigations into alleged misconduct.
Goldsberry’s post announcing her resignation did not mention Coleman.
On Nov. 22, the Sun Prairie School District released a statement about the departure of former principal Coleman. The district’s statement concluded by saying that neither the district nor any member of the school board would provide further comment about Coleman’s situation.
“There will be no further comment regarding this situation from members of the Board of Education or District administration,” the statement from the Sun Prairie Area School District said.
Coleman was asked to resign by the district in November after an investigation into comments Coleman allegedly made during an August staff convocation. The district said Coleman used derogatory language to describe students during a performance routine. The district also investigated a complaint from an East high teacher who said Coleman repeatedly misgendered them.
Foster left the school board when it became clear Coleman was essentially being terminated.
“When she resigned I knew that I was gonna resign,” Foster told Madison365 last month. “I’m sick of it and had to do something about it and I thought that I could no longer be part of a system that has historically done Black women and men that way.”
Goldsberry first ran for school board unsuccessfully in 2022, and was elected in 2023. She was serving as clerk/treasurer when she resigned on Monday.
Madison365 has reached out for comment from Goldsberry, the Sun Prairie Area School District and members of the school board, and will update this story with any response.
