Strides for Africa

Africa Fest 2023 will kick off this Saturday, Aug. 19, with Strides for Africa, a fun and family-friendly run/walk event for all ages in collaboration with the African Association of Madison that works to make a global impact.

The Strides for Africa run/walk has many options to participate including a 5K run, a 5K walk, a unique team relay (simulating rigors of gathering water in rural Africa), a 1.5 mile fun walk, and a kids fun run. Awards will be given during the Africa Fest event.

Strides for Africa, and their events, aim to uplift education and health by promoting clean water projects in rural African countries. These outcomes include improved health, empowered youth, and ultimately transformed rural African communities, annually. Participating in the event is an opportunity to build community and support around the global water crisis. Activities such as the team relay are designed to emulate the struggle of collecting water in some African rural regions. Chris Jimieson, the founder of Strides for Africa, tells Madison365 about his goal for these activities, which is to “elevate the purpose around the way people are participating in the event.”

Jimieson also highlights the importance of appreciating and experiencing African culture through food, music, dances, and many languages. Strides for Africa and Africa Fest 2023 are an opportunity for the community to learn about new cultural traditions and practices. Same-day registration is available from 9 am to 10 am. Visit their website to learn more about how you can learn more, support, or to pre-register for the Strides for Africa run/walk.
