Community members will come together to celebrate the life and legacy of Tony Terrell Robinson Jr. on Sunday, March 6, 2 p.m., at the Wilmar Neighborhood Center, 504 S. Brearly St. on Madison’s near east side.
March 6 marks the seventh anniversary of the death of Robinson, who was shot and killed by a Madison police officer in a home on Williamson Street on Madison’s east side.
“His murder has been a catalyst for meaningful necessary change in our community. From an audit of MPD, resulting in 177 recommended changes, including an Independent Police Monitor and a Police Civilian Oversight Board, to beautiful art, heartfelt music and poetry made in his honor,” reads a Facebook post announcing the event.
The celebration of the life of Tony Robinson will take place 2-5 p.m. and will include poetry, music, food and sign making. That will be followed by a march starting at 5 p.m., a candlelight vigil at 6:15 p.m. and a moment of silence at 1125 Williamson St. at 6:38 p.m., and a mural visit with hot drinks at the Social Justice Center at 7 p.m.
