A white father and son who followed and fatally shot 25-year-old Ahmaud Arbery in while he was out for a jog in Georgia two months ago have been arrested and charged with murder, according to multiple media reports.

Former police officer Gregory McMichael, 64, and his son Travis McMichael, 34, were both charged with murder and aggravated assault in the Feb. 23 shooting of Ahmaud Arbery.

The McMichaels have maintained that they thought Arbery was a burglary suspect and that they attempted to perform a citizen’s arrest, and that they shot Arbery in self defense.

Local prosecutors had initially refused to charge the pair. But new video released earlier this week sparked outrage as it made clear that Arbery was unarmed and the men were the aggressors.

A press conference is scheduled for 9 am EDT tomorrow.
