United Way of Dane County has raised over $240,000 for its Abundant Life Christian School Emergency and Recovery Fund to benefit the children, families and educators of the Abundant Life Christian School community after the tragic Dec. 16 school shooting.

“As we step into the New Year, we want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your incredible support of the Abundant Life Christian School Emergency and Recovery Fund. Your generosity and compassion will help the ALCS community during this unprecedented, challenging time,” Renee Moe, United Way president and CEO, said in a statement.

So far, 1,440 donors have contributed $240,740.

One hundred percent of the funds raised will go towards the greatest needs in the aftermath of this tragedy, the United Way said. Those priorities, as outlined by ALCS Principal Doug Butler, are:

• First, to come alongside any financial needs of the families who lost loved ones.

• Then, to support the medical expenses of those injured.

• Finally, to use the remaining funds to provide for the mental health needs of the ALCS school community.
