Volunteer lawyers and legal professionals will be available on Thursday, Oct. 26, at the Urban League of Greater Madison’s free expungement clinic to help community members go through their criminal records to potentially get certain convictions expunged or certain arrests removed from their records.
Legal Action of Wisconsin, Foley & Lardner, and the Wisconsin Association of African American Lawyers will host the event, along with the Urban League. At the clinic, according to ULGM, community members will receive:
- Free criminal record reviews with an attorney.
- Advice regarding eligibility for arrest removal and correction, expungement, and pardon.
- Assistance with paperwork and filing court documents if eligible.
- Information about your rights related to employment and criminal records.
- Advice for answering job application and job interview questions about your background.
- Job leads & information about free career training opportunities.
Pre-registration is required for this event, and can be done here. Space is limited, so the Urban League encourages people to sign up right away.
