The Urban League of Greater Madison’s 3rd Annual Urban Cabaret will be held Friday, Sept. 25, 6-11 p.m. at the Monona Terrace Community and Convention Center, 1 John Nolen Dr.

The Urban League of Greater Madison’s 3rd Annual Urban Cabaret is a community collaboration of Love, Peace & Soul. One moment you will snap your fingers along to poetic prose and the next you will clap your hands to funky beats and at the end of the night DJ Chill will take you home with a high-energy dance party.

The Urban Cabaret was inspired by Dr. Maya Angelou’s “Cabaret for Freedom,” a fundraiser for the Southern Christian Leadership Conference held in 1960. Providing a stage for local artists to perform and to help tell the story of the African American experience seemed like a natural way for the Urban League to get its message out.

Local R&B band Kinfolk is well known for its diverse musical style as well as captivating live performances. Kinfolk infuses soulful harmonies and gritty vocals to recreate memories of the past, and point to the promise of the future.

Rob Dz teams up with The New Breed to bring us a jazzy & hip set reminiscent of Gil Scott-Heron.
