US Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona to tour UW-Madison campus, meet with Latinx students

U.S. Secretary of Education Miguel Cardona will visit the University of Wisconsin-Madison campus Monday afternoon as part of a launch of the “Return to School Road Trip” — a bus tour to showcase students and communities safely returning to in-person learning.

Secretary Cardona started out the day in Eau Claire for a tour of Locust Lane Elementary School and a Return to School Pep Rally.

Secretary Cardona with be at the UW Memorial Union at 3:15 p.m. today and will tour the UW-Madison campus and have a visit to their Public Service Fair that provides students of all majors the opportunity to connect with local, state and national nonprofit agencies, according to a press release. Secretary Cardona will meet with the University of Wisconsin–Madison Chancellor Rebecca Blank, Latinx students, and students who are part of their special education teaching program.

Secretary Cardona’s “Return to School Road Trip” is scheduled to stop in five states in the Midwest and will run through Friday, wrapping up with a school visit in Canton, Mich., outside Detroit. He will be accompanied by Deputy Secretary Cindy Marten, according to a UW-Madison release, and local school leaders will join students, parents, educators, and school communities for events that highlight schools and communities that have safely welcomed students back to in-person learning.
