Interim UW basketball head coach Greg Gard may have a chance to remove the interim label from his title very soon.
The UW athletic department has posted an opening for the men’s basketball coaching position, asking for all applications to be in by March 3. The job opening anticipates the start date to be March 8, the day before the Big Ten Basketball tournament.
Greg Gard has held the coaching position on an interim basis since Dec. 16, when longtime coach Bo Ryan retired.
After a slow 2-4 start under Gard, the basketball team has since won 9 of the past 10 games, including upset wins over #2 Maryland and #8 Iowa on the road.
Many basketball critics have called for athletic director Barry Alvarez to give Gard the job on a full-time basis.
Alvarez has complimented Gard on his performance, but said his hands were tied by the University of Wisconsin hiring practices
