William “The Kid” Langston, an up-and-coming professional boxer out of Kenosha, will be helping to headline the Mil-Town United Fight Night, a boxing extravaganza scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 7.
Langston first caught the eye of many during Wisconsin’s Golden Gloves tournament in Middleton back in March. Langston won the 178-lb championship with a devastating first-round knockout and, spurred by that performance, decided to go for it all and turn professional.
Langston subsequently won his first professional fight on April 20 by defeating Eric Plumeri at a boxing event in Kenosha with a first-round TKO. Ever since then, Langston has been experiencing some of the ups and downs of the business side of the boxing game. Langston learned quickly that not all of the promoters and promise-makers on the professional level were reputable or trustworthy.
Since that fight in April, Langston has been chomping at the bit to get back in the ring and continue what he envisions as a meteoric rise through the ranks.
But, recently, Langston was approached by Val Allen, the CEO of Heavy Hitters Promotion, who wanted him to help headline an event called the Mil-Town United fight night.
Heavy Hitters is a relatively new promotional company that started in February 2017. Heavy Hitters focuses on the professional growth of its boxing clients. They help put boxers into the limelight and find the right bouts that will help them gain recognition.
Langston was searching for fights as well as looking at different promotions and boxing-related Facebook pages when he received a call from Heavy Hitters.
“I got a call from someone who told me a promotion was interested and he asked if I was interested in fighting in September,” Langston told Madison365. “I was like ‘sure’. So, I was still looking for other fights but this promoter Val Allen gave me a call. And this is a good experience. I’m dealing with people out of Milwaukee. Heavy Hitter is new and this is her second event and she is looking to help local fighters.”
Langston will be facing Darius Harris from Detroit. Harris has three professional bouts under his belt but Langston is as confident as ever about what the outcome will be. So far in his boxing life, Langston has yet to be taken out of the first round and winning quickly and decisively is his goal every time out.
“I think we both know what the outcome will be,” Langston told Madison365. “My desired outcome is a first-round KO as always. I’m excited!”
Langston has been doubling and tripling his training routines as of late. He has been running 8 miles a day and doing more intense gym workouts, as well as working on his boxing technique.
If all goes according to plan, Langston will have two major victories in his first two professional fights. With his energy, confidence and charisma Langston should be easy to promote for Heavy Hitters.
Mil-Town United Fight Night will feature several bouts including a co-main event and will be at the Tripoli Shriners at 3000 W. Wisconsin Ave in Milwaukee. General admission is $40 and ringside admission is $60. Doors open at 6 pm.
