Wisconsin COVID testing falls again, but so do positive test rates

The state of Wisconsin reported just over 3,700 new coronavirus tests on Wednesday, of which 1,266 were positive, for a positive test rate of about 34 percent. The seven-day average of new cases per day has fallen to 1,230.

The state of Wisconsin also reported 28 COVID deaths on  Wednesday, increasing the total death toll to 6,020. Since March, an additional 190 people have tested positive for COVID but died of other causes. The seven-day average of reported deaths fell to 23.

The seven-day positive rate for all people tested, which would be less subject day to day fluctuations in testing, fell from 19.4 to 18.7 percent, and the positive rate for all tests rose slightly from 4.9 to 4.7 percent, its lowest rate since the state began reporting that number a few months ago.

The state also reported Thursday that 143,610 Wisconsin residents have completed the COVID-19 vaccination series, almost 26,423 more since the number was last reported Wednesday. In all, 690,698 vaccine doses have been administered, more than 77,400 since Wednesday.

The estimated number of active cases — diagnosed in the past 30 days — fell slightly to just ovrer 16,000, about 2,9 percent of the 548,252 total cases confirmed in Wisconsin.
