Wisconsin passes 150,000 total cases as positive test rate jumps to all-time high

0

The state of Wisconsin confirmed 2,676 new coronavirus cases Sunday on just over 10,000 tests. Those results bring the total case count to 150,236, of which just under 29,000 are considered active, about 900 more than yesterday.

Additionally, seven more fatalities were reported — two in Calumet County and one each in Florence, Lincoln, Manitowoc, Racine and Winnebago Counties — bringing our total death toll to 1,465.

Our seven-day average of deaths is now 12.57.

Wisconsin’s Department of Health Services has changed the way it reports data to more accurately reflect the situation, attributing both positive and negative tests to the dates they were processed, not the dates that the data was reported to DHS. This will give a more accurate report of the percentage of tests returning positive results, but will render the daily percentages as we have been reporting them irrelevant. Therefore we will now only report the seven-day positive test rate, and will no longer report daily percentages for the state or counties.

The state is also reporting this percentage by test, and by person, to account for the fact that some people receive multiple negative tests.

Given these new criteria, Wisconsin’s seven-day of positive tests by person rose to 18.6 percent, a full percentage point higher than yesterday’s 17.6, and the highest rate yet. The positive rate by test is now 9.8, a jump from 9.3 yesterday percent — meaning 9.8 percent of the tests given in the past seven days were positive, while 18.6 percent of the people tested were positive.

Today’s data brings the seven-day average of new cases to 2,395.

The highest local new case count came in Milwaukee County with 338.
