A Fund for Women, a component fund of Madison Community Foundation (MCF) that funds causes and organizations that support women and girls, has suspended its usual grantmaking activity for 2020 to focus on organizations with immediate needs caused by the coronavirus pandemic, according to a press release from MCF.
The fund is granting $30,000 to the Latino Consortium for Action and $20,000 each to YWCA Madison, Domestic Abuse Intervention Services and the Foundation for Black Women’s Wellness.
“The Latino Consortium is a collective of Latino-led organizations under the lead of Centro Hispano and the grant is for the Latinx Consortium Emergency Relief Fund, which will provide support to families whose immigration status means they’re not eligible for federal relief funds to help cover rent or pay other bills, and to small business owners struggling to meet payroll,” MCF Communications Director Becki Fiegel said in an email. “The grants to the other three organizations are to help them continue or expand existing programming to help meet the increased demands the pandemic has created.”
“Our mission is now more important than ever,” Jennifer Seeker Conroy, Chair of the A Fund for Women Advisory Committee, said in a statement. “The impacts of this pandemic are exacerbated for women and girls. We want to get funding to the agencies on the frontlines of this crisis now. We’re also asking our donors to make a special gift if they are able to during this turbulent time to support women who need our help.
At a time of such need and anxiety for immigrants and undocumented workers in Dane County, these funds will go a long way to help stabilize homes and in turn support women who are the backbone of our beautiful community,” Centro Hispano executive director Karen Mendez Coller said in a statement. “This contribution is more than support during a time of crisis – it provides encouragement and hope.”
