Madison-based social justice and service organization Freedom Inc will host a forum on Facebook Live at 4 pm today to give people access to local officials and experts and get informed on what reopening Dane County means for businesses, courts, families and communities.
The county extended a previous stay-at-home order on May 13, the day the Wisconsin Supreme Court overturned Governor Tony Evers’ “Safer at Home” order. The County announced Friday that it would begin Forward Dane, a phased reopening plan, on Tuesday.
Freedom Inc co-director M Adams told Madison365 Tuesday that people need to be informed on what that means, exactly, which is why the organization has convened a panel of Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, Dane County Judge Everett Mitchell, UW epidemiologist Dr. Nasia Safdar and Madison school board member Ananda Mirilli.
“The main goal of the event is to provide a space where our communities can have information about what’s the plan as Madison reopens,” Adams said. “And also give a space for our community, who typically don’t have access to top officials, to be able to ask them questions. That’s what we’re trying to accomplish with this platform.”
Adams said issues addressed will include what school will look like going forward, how the court system will adjust, what symptoms people should look for and more. Citizens will be welcome to submit questions on Facebook live.
Adams said Freedom Inc plans to produce information documents based on the information shared in the forum and distribute them to the community. They also intend to translate the documents into Hmong.
Adams also said Freedom Inc intends to hold more similar events in the coming weeks.
