PHMDC reported another 66 new COVID-19 cases Friday, increasing the County’s overall total to 43,665. Cases overall have dropped by 22.4percent in the past two weeks. Hospitalizations, however, grew by an additional 2 this afternoon with an increase of 24 percent the last two weeks. In total there are 34 people hospitalized in local hospitals. This number includes those from Dane County and from surrounding counties.
The rate of daily cases per 100,000 residents for the past seven days as of April 19 has dropped to 12.2. Active cases dropped slightly to 969, still about two percent of total cases.
The total number of deaths from COVID-19 for Dane County remained at 293 today.
As reported on April 22, UW is averaging 4,336.0 tests a day for the past seven days for on-campus testing while cases have decreased by 15.9 percent the past 7 days to an average of 7.6 cases per day. The positivity rate for on campus testing for staff and students has grown to 0.2 percent for the past seven days.
As of April 22, 27,896 UW students and employees have received at least one dose (from both off and on campus vaccinations).
Dane County’s 14-day positive test rate as of April 19 remained at 1.2 while the seven-day rate has remained at 1.1. These rates do not include preliminary data from the past four days as that data continues to adjust as more tests are attributed.
More comprehensive data for vaccinations is updated every day for Dane County by only core measures. Data break down by race, ethnicity and age except those older than 65 have been removed. The current data listed is retrieved from the Wisconsin Immunization Registry for all adults and children within the state. The release and the information on the dashboard does warn that some of this information may be incorrect or incomplete as the data is not updated as soon as someone is vaccinated or double checked as consistently as other data gathered. Yesterday’s newly released Data Snapshot provided some insight into cases between April 5 through April 18 where adults 18-22, those aged 12-17 and adults in their 40s saw significant increase in cases. Compared to the previous data snapshot for the dates between March 22 to April 4, those aged 12-17 grew by 41 new cases, adults aged 18-22 grew by 67 new cases and adults in their 40s grew by 24 new cases during April 5 – April 18. No other age groups saw significant increases during this time period. As new clusters were identified per the updated information, multiple clusters had been found in high school students where it is suspected that some transmission took place as students went off campus to eat lunch, students ate in their cars unmasked. UW cases accounted for 11 percent of Dane County cases during this time period as well or a total of 101 cases for college students or 15 were UW staff/faculty.
Vaccination data also reported by the updated snapshot included some updated information by age groups. As of April 5 – April 18, 63 percent of those aged 18-64 have received at least one shot of the vaccine while 92 percent of those aged 65 and older have received at least one dose. It took 115 days to get at least 50 percent of the population aged 18-64 115 days to get 1 shot of the vaccine – almost double the time it took for those aged 65 and older to get at least one dose – a reported 61 days for those 65 and older. Though the population size is not included between these two age groups, there is a much larger population to vaccinate for those aged 18-64 and most of that population only became eligible in mid-March through April. As the vaccine has become eligible for those aged 16-17, 42 percent of those residents have received at least one shot.
Currently, there are 55.3 percent of Dane County residents have received at least one shot of the vaccination while 38.8 percent are completely vaccinated.
