Alder Donna Moreland resigns from Madison Common Council

    Alderperson Donna Moreland, representing the Southwest Side’s 7th District, resigned from the Madison Common Council on Tuesday, effective today.

    “Donna has been our Common Council colleague since April 2019 and we’ve enjoyed working with her on a number of topics, issues and most recently serving as the chair of the Alder Workgroup to Develop the Logistical and Operational Details for MPD Independent Civilian Oversight,” a statement from the City of Madison reads. “Her commitment to serving her district and the city are commendable. We wish her the best in all her future endeavors.”

    Moreland captured a seat on Common Council’s in April 2019 with a victory over Badri Lankella, a computer engineer, earning 57 percent of the vote to Lankella’s 43 percent.

    The procedure for filling a vacancy on the Common Council is set out in Madison General Ordinance 2.03 and Wisconsin State Statute 17.23(1)(a). The Common Council President oversees the application process to fill the vacancy.
