The annual MLK Ecumenical Service will be held virtually on Sunday, Jan. 16, 4:30 p.m., the King Coalition has announced.

This ecumenical worship service engages members from the broader Madison community and it includes people from “diverse religious traditions, socioeconomic statuses, ethnicities and political beliefs joining together in the spirit of brotherhood/ sisterhood to honor Dr. King’s dream of social justice and equality to break down the walls of discrimination,” according to a press release from the King Coalition. It also seeks to develop the “beloved community” through spiritual inclusivity and recognition of shared humanity.

The annual event is one of many events that will be hosted this coming weekend by the King Coalition, established in the fall of 1985 as a community group to plan the official City of Madison and Dane County observance of the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday.
