Former Dane County Board Supervisor April Kigeya today launched a campaign to be Madison’s next Mayor.
In a video posted to Facebook Thursday morning, Kigeya focused on affordability and support for working-class families. Kigeya points to her record on the county board advocating for childcare and support for student-parents, and frames her candidacy around building what she calls “a city that includes us all.”
Kigeya also announced a campaign launch event to be held Thursday night at 7 p.m. at Hayes Place, 1145 North Sherman Avenue.
Kigeya ran unopposed for County Board in 2022 and 2024, and represented Madison’s far west side and some western suburbs until she moved out of the district in January 2026. During her tenure, she served as co-chair of the Community Justice Council’s Racial Disparities Subcommittee and vice chair of the Public Protection and Judiciary Committee.
Kigeya joins former Alders Syed Abbas and Brian Benford, as well as One City Schools founder Kaleem Caire, in challenging incumbent Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, who announced earlier this summer that she will seek a third term.
