BGCDC to host candlelight vigil to support community after school shooting tragedy

The greater Madison community is invited to a candlelight vigil hosted by the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County (BGCDC) to honor those affected by the school shooting at Abundant Life Christian School and to provide a space for healing tonight at 6 p.m. at the Vel Phillips Statue on the State Capitol grounds in downtown Madison.

“As an organization dedicated to serving youth and families, we feel it is our responsibility to step forward and create spaces for connection and healing,” said Michael Johnson, CEO of Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County, in a press release announcing the event. “This vigil is one way we can stand with our community and show that we are here to support them during this unimaginable time.”

According to BGCDC, Madison Mayor Satya Rhodes-Conway, Bishop Godfrey Stubbs of End Times Ministries International’ MMSD Superintendent Dr. Joe Gothard; United Way CEO Renee Moe; Focused Interruption CEO Anthony Cooper and other community leaders will be present at the candlelight vigil.

In addition to the vigil, Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County is organizing ongoing efforts to address the needs of youth and families impacted by this tragedy. These plans include providing safe spaces for young people to process their emotions, connecting individuals with mental health resources, and collaborating with community partners to provide both immediate and long-term support.
